Our City Expert's Tips

Armitage Avenue is one of the city's best shopping streets for independent, fashion-minded boutiques. Don't miss Lori's Designer Shoes (where big-name designer footwear is sold at a discount), Art Effect (an eclectic home and fashion boutique with cool clothes and one-of-a-kind gifts), and Tabula Tua (gorgeous tabletop accessories). The surrounding side streets are worth a stroll to see a wide variety of renovated historic townhomes; this is one of the most desirable neighborhoods for well-to-do young families.

Shop 'til You Drop!
If you're a beauty-product fan, you'll find lots of tempting shops here. Lush and Kiehl's (both on Armitage) and Endo-Exo and Fresh (both on Halsted St., just north of Armitage) all specialize in lotions, soaps and other bath-and-beauty products. Have fun sampling everything!
