Our City Expert's Tips

The Auditorium Theatre is one of Chicago's architectural landmarks, and well worth a visit if you like historic buildings. However, to get inside, you'll either have to buy tickets to a show (which could be anything from a Broadway hit like "Les Miserables," a pop concert, or a performance of "The Nutcracker" ballet), or schedule a tour. Tours are only given on Mondays, and you should call in advance to make a reservation.

History Buff
Even if you can't make it on a tour, it's worth walking around the theater's facade on Congress Parkway and Michigan Avenue to get an idea of its massive scale. At the time it was built (1889), it was the largest building in the world and the tallest building in Chicago.
