Our City Expert's Tips

The park commemorates the site of the battle on April 21, 1836 that won Texas independence from Mexico. Here Santa Anna met defeat. The park is the home of the San Jacinto Monument and the San Jacinto Museum of History, as well as the historic Battleship TEXAS.

Pack a lunch, wear comfortable clothes--especially shoes--and plan to spend at least a half a day. Before you leave, be sure you make it to the Battleship TEXAS.

History Buff
If you love re-enactments, plan to visit on the weekend closest to April 21 when the park puts on the annual San Jacinto Day and Battle of San Jacinto re-enactment. Check with the park for the exact date.

Take it Easy
This is an interesting place to picnic and walk the grounds. The reflection pool by the monument is relaxing.

Panoramic Views
If you take the elevator up to the observation deck, you'll have a beautiful view of Houston.
