Our City Expert's Tips

Musical Journey
A bit of trivia for music fans: Exene Cervenka, of the seminal LA punk band X, used to live above the venue and first met future band member John Doe at a poetry reading here in the late '70s.

Local Culture
This is an excellent place to plug into the local literary scene. Free writing workshops--fiction to memoir to screenplays--take place almost daily. Many aspiring writers then present their work at readings, but the calendar of events also includes presentations by nationally known literary greats.

The crowd ranges from aging beatniks to 30-something ex-punks to curious college kids.
