Our City Expert's Tips

History Buff
You can see more than 1,000 bullet holes on the Carter House, a grim reminder of the horrors of the 1864 Battle of Franklin, among the bloodiest of Civil War confrontations. While the battle was raging, the Carter family hid in the cellar with friends and neighbors. Capt. Todd Carter, the youngest son, was wounded in the fighting and died two days later.
