Our City Expert's Tips

Family Time
The Frist Center's occasional, free "family days" offer special programs and activities for families and are tied into current exhibitions.

Shop 'til You Drop!
The gift shop at the Frist Center is a great place to find unique gifts for all ages--from handcrafted jewelry to framed prints and posters, from stationery to art supplies, from decorative arts to books and videos.

Saving Money
Be sure to get your parking ticket validated for a discounted rate.

World Scholar
Education is a big part of the Frist Center's mission. Classes and activities for all ages are held on- and off-site. The Summer Art Expedition for ages 5-13, for example, is designed to stimulate children's creativity while teaching them about the world's art, cultures, and traditions, often through hands-on activities.

Time to Eat
Enjoy a snack, lunch, or dinner at the Frist Center Cafe. Selections include fresh sandwiches, salads, and soups; entrees; desserts; and coffee, beer, and wine.

Architecture Buff
The Art Deco building that houses the Frist Center for the Visual Arts is an architectural marvel. It was built as a post office in 1933-34, in the midst of the Great Depression. Architectural tours of the Frist are offered the first Friday of every month at 6:30pm.
