The Ross Island Bridge stretches across the Willamette River in Downtown Portland while also carrying the Mount Hood Highway (Rte 26). Distinguished as being the only cantilever deck truss bridge in the state of Oregon, the bridge was designed by the revered New York bride designer, Gustav Linderthal, in 1926. The bridge is named after the nearby Ross Island, a small island in the Willamette River. While this bridge mostly carries vehicles, there is a pedestrian sidewalk on the north side of the bridge, but be forewarned that there is no barrier between the small walkway and the busy traffic.
