Alta Vista Archaeological Sacred Site

Chacalán

Holy Archaeological Site

Address:
Alta Vista Road
(Hwy 200 east turnoff, two miles north of the Playa El Naranjo turnoff)
Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco 48300

Description

Alta Vista, or Chacalán, as it's known by locals, is an archaeological site that is still revered as a living holy place. Traveling there requires a certain level of respect and attention, since many locals would rather it not be visited by outsiders. The road is not well marked, so on your first time there it would be advisable to go with someone who knows the area. Petroglyphs are estimated to date back at least 2000 years. Guides there will emphatically tell you that no photos may be taken.
