Description

In the rolling countryside about 20 minutes southwest of Chapel Hill is this agrarian oasis dedicated to sustainable farming, peaceful living, and really, really good food. Open to overnight guests year-round through its bed-and-breakfast inn (emphasis on the hearty breakfast), the dairy makes itself available to daytime visitors throughout the year in its thrice-yearly Open Barn weekends and monthly dinners--the third Sunday afternoon of every month.

Times & Dates

Open Hours: Hours vary
Notes: Visit the dairy during milking times (call for details), during Open Barn weekends (three times per year), or for a Sunday Dinner (once per month).
Visit Time: Half day(4hr)-1.5 days
Best Time to Visit: If you're in town the weekend before Valentine's Day or on the third Sunday of each month, don't miss the opportunity to visit.
Why Best: In February, Open Barn weekend is a hit with all ages, and the Sunday dinners tantalize the taste buds of adult foodies.
Average Wait Time: None
Notes: When the dairy is closed to visitors, overnight guests of the inn get the goats and llamas mostly to themselves (minus a few farmers and cheesemakers happy to give you a personalized tour).
Price: Free

Exposure

N/a Notes: The inn is climate-controlled but the dairy is not. Much of the farmstead is shaded by trees older than the century-old inn.
