As one of the only museums in Hawaii dedicated to supporting and showcasing contemporary art, this is a unique place to visit. The museum's collections and exhibitions are spread between two locations, at Makiki Heights and at the First Hawaiian Center. At both venues, visitors will find a comprehensive museum filled with art from the 1940s-era through the present, including pieces in such mediums as sculpture, paint, photography, and multi media. Most of the exhibits here are temporary, and rotate through various museums throughout the state and country, so be sure to call ahead and check to find out what's on display during your visit. Recent exhibits have included: Phantasmagoria: Specters of Absence, Dreaming of a Speech Without Words: The Paintings and Early Objects of W.C. Westermann, and Situation Comedy: Humor in Recent Art.
