Description

Daufuskie Island is located between Savannah, GA, and Hilton Head Island. It is easily accessible by ferry from either Savannah or Hilton Head and is home to two resorts and less than 1,000 permanent residents. Recreational activities abound, as the island boasts two championship golf courses and lots of great fishing and swimming areas. There are two historic lighthouses located on the island: Bloody Point (built in 1883) and Haig Point (built in 1873). Both are accessible only by a tour from Hilton Head or if you are a guest at Haig Point. The island is eight square miles in area, so the best way to get around is by bicycle or golf cart, although a few cars and trucks can be seen driving the roads (many of which are dirt or gravel).
