Description

Want to learn about the flora and fauna of Hilton Head and other coastal islands? The Coastal Discovery Museum is the place to go. There is plenty to see and do here; make sure to stop by the Sea Island Classroom and explore the Biodiversity exhibit that educates visitors about the importance of preserving the diverse plant and animal species that inhabit the islands. You can also create your own map of Hilton Head to take home as a souvenir or watch a video of the museum's award-winning Sea Turtle Protection Project. After exploring the interior of the museum, take a walk outside on the marsh walkway and stroll around the Perennial and Butterfly gardens to get a breath of fresh air, or test your crabbing or shrimping skills in nearby Jarvis Creek. The museum also offers over a dozen different cruises and tours; you can even explore the area's salt marshes by kayak if you sign up for the Kayak Nature Trip.
