There are several islands that surround Hilton Head: Little and Big Harry Island, Corn Island, and Buzzard Island. The Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, however, is the best island to visit if you desire hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, or photographing while on vacation. With 14 miles of trails winding through a diverse landscape that includes salt marshes, tidal creeks, forests, and freshwater ponds, Pinckney Island offers the perfect day trip, filled with adventure and beauty. If you get tired of walking around, take a quick nap in one of the hammocks hanging around the island. Hunters and anglers are also in for a treat--deer can be hunted during the annual season, and fishing is popular here because of the freshwater ponds and easy access to the ocean.
