Can't find Sulphur Springs? Follow your nose! The springs are the result of a volcano collapsing in on itself nearly 40,000 years ago. Today a short walk up to the viewing area will expose you to the sights (and smell) of this still active volcano. Although it's technically active, don't be expecting a plume of lava and ash to ruin your weekend as the volcano mostly lies dormant except for the emitted gases. The affect is a deposit of minerals on the rock that create a palate of colors plus that unmistakable rotten egg smell. You'll see pools of bubbling water and probably notice a complete lack of vegetation--it's a harsh environment for green things. A trip to Sulphur Springs is a great lesson in (and reminder of) the geologic formation of the island.
