Description

To experience the young, hip, and artsy vibe of New Orleans, head downtown to the The Central Business District (CBD) and Warehouse District. This area was developed in the late 1800s for storing goods in the large warehouses and for conducting trade on the Mississippi River. When cotton farming and trading became a thing of the past, the CBD and Warehouse District fell into a state of neglect and decay. It wasn't until the 1970s that people started moving in and fixing up the old warehouses--turning them into high-priced condos, art galleries, and upscale restaurants. This area is unique to New Orleans because only recently has it become the hot spot to visit for shopping and dining, yet it has a deep-rooted history in New Orleans culture.
