Description

An oasis of well-manicured greenery and rows of live oaks nestled amongst the grand houses of Uptown, Audubon Park was designed by John Charles Olmsted, the son of Frederick Law Olmsted, the famous American landscape architect who created New York's Central Park. Like so many places in New Orleans, the park has a colorful history: it was once part of a plantation, and was used by soldiers of both sides during the Civil War. The park is named for renowned naturalist, painter, and ornithologist John James Audubon, who lived in New Orleans in the 1820s. The Audubon Zoo is located in the park, which also has lovely gardens and a golf course.
