Major Jesse Walton received a land grant from Georgia Governor George Walton and moved to this region, then considered part of the western frontier in 1784. The home he built that year eventually became "Traveler's Rest," an inn at the edge of the world. Now the large log cabin is an historic site kept by the State of Georgia. You can get an unofficial tour of the place, including outbuildings by the enthusiastic rangers, or you can just wander around the quite interesting homestead.
