For eighteen years now, Molly Stevenson, Jr. has been educating the public on Western heritage, with a special emphasis on the role of blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans, and women in the west. Located on her family's 150 year-old still working ranch, the American Cowboy Museum began in a two-car garage. Now, in addition to exhibits by western artists such as Tony Sherman and interactive, hands-on exhibits chronicling life in the old west, the museum also offers school tours, horseback riding, lectures by historians in authentic attire, and a mobile petting zoo. Be sure and call before you go, though, as tours are by appointment only.
