Located downtown, the amphitheater and its surrounding plaza provide the setting for many musical performances and festivals. It's also a popular setting for brown bag concerts throughout the year. Among the most popular events are the annual International Food & Folklife Festival in April and the county sponsored "Jazz in the Park" concerts in July. One of the most striking aspects of the amphitheater is the aesthetic look of the build, a nod to the desert environment unique to Nevada. The building is reminiscent of Red Stone Canyon and the Valley of Fire within Clark County. The building was made entirely of indigenous Nevada rocks, primarily of sandstone, making it look rather like an extension of the land rather than a dissension from the land.
