Sand Sculpture
Architecture Abounds
Hawaiian beaches are famous for their fine sand, and Kauai is no exception. This means that a trip to the island is the perfect time to plan and build the ultimate sand sculpture. In this activity, you will use some planning and creativity to construct a dramatic and unique masterpiece out of sand.
Instructions:
Challenge yourself to make a very elaborate creation. Before your trip, research online for photos of award-winning sand sculptures for inspiration and then brainstorm ideas for your own masterpiece.
Once you have a good idea sketch it on a piece of paper (just like an architect sketches out a blueprint).
Next, think about what objects you will need to create your design. Some items you might use are: coconut shells, buckets, twigs, lava rocks and coral.
Keep in mind that the sand varies according to location on the island so inspect which texture works best with your plan.
When you are ready to head to the beach, gather all your sculpturing tools to keep in the car for when you find the perfect sand spot.
Start building far enough back from the shore so the tide doesn't wash away your work.
Conclusion:
Sand is really an amazing building material, allowing you to really set your imagination free and create something totally unique. See how wild you can make your sculpture! Have a contest among all members of the family for the most creative sculpture or create a theme everyone must follow. Don't forget to take photos!
