Beach in a Jar
Activities Grab Bag

Activities Grab Bag
Take the beach home with you by decoratively arranging its elements in a jar.

Instructions:

The beaches on St. Croix are so beautiful and tranquil that they are difficult to leave behind! If you're overcome by nostalgia at the thought of having to leave the island's beaches forever, rest assured that there's a way to bring the beach home with you! It won't exactly be the whole beach, but it will remind you of all the fun you had while you were beaching-it on St. Croix.
First, you'll need to collect some specimens from the beach while you're on vacation. Collect sand, some favorite shells, little rocks you like, dried seaweed, and anything else you found on the beach that you'd like to collect. Using a kids' beach shovel or large spoon, scoop the sand you collected into the bottom of a jar. You can use any kind of jar, but best results are usually achieved when you have a decorative jar. On the layer of sand, add your shells and/or rocks, making sure that the shells are not still alive. Add another one-inch layer of sand and continue layering with shells and sand until the jar is nearly full. If you have dried seaweed to add, put some on the very top as a garnish and close the lid. Gaze and play with your jar whenever you really miss the beach!

Conclusion:

You may find similar kinds of jars in souvenir shops filled with sand and shells, but yours will likely be bigger, more personalized, and free! If you collect miniature beaches like this from several different beach locations, you can compare the color of the sand, the kinds of shells you found, and the aesthetic quality of the independent beach jars.
