Britt Lightbody
City Expert
Born just north of Copenhagen, Britt is your typical Dane. After school, she left to see the world as an au pair but only got as far as London. Here, a part-time job with the Danish Tourist Board developed into a 20-year-long career working mostly in the press office, and finally running it. Britt was responsible for sending British journalists to Denmark to write about all aspects of tourism. She accompanied parties from the media and, therefore, found herself constantly arriving back in her own homeland with a critical eye on quality and value and on the new and interesting. The trips went beyond Copenhagen to touch every part of the country and included several fascinating visits to Greenland and the Faeroe Islands.
After 20 years in London, Britt and her Irish husband decided to bring up their young son in the Danish culture, and they said goodbye to Britain. For some reason she still can’t fully understand, they have ended up in a 220-year-old farmhouse, two hours west of the city. Britt's family all still lives in the Greater Copenhagen area, and she believes that because of her background she sees the city not through the sentimental eyes of a local or those of a tourist promotional manager, but as a Dane, proud of her capital and determined that others will find out what makes Copenhagen wonderful.
