Laura Paquet

Laura Byrne Paquet is a freelance journalist from Ottawa and a former president of the Travel Media Association of Canada. After earning a bachelor of journalism degree from Carleton University and working as a business reporter and a magazine editor, Laura became a full-time freelance writer in 1992. Her articles have appeared in more than 70 publications in North America and Europe, including Chatelaine, Ottawa Magazine, The Ottawa Citizen, Islands, Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel, and National Geographic Traveler. Her specialties include travel, shopping, and Ottawa’s historic sites. She is the author of two non-fiction books--Secret Ottawa and The Urge to Splurge: A Social History of Shopping--as well as six novels and two novellas. She is currently writing a book about the history of travel for Goose Lane Editions. In her spare time, she spends far too many hours pampering her cats, botching recipes, and watching “The Amazing Race.”
