Former television reporter Richard Varr is a well-rounded freelance writer with more than 20 years writing experience. Richard began his journalism career by working three years as a reporter for the suburban Boston daily, “The Middlesex News”. That was his first journalism job after graduating from Boston University with a MS degree in Broadcast Journalism. Specializing in travel and feature writing, Richard researched and wrote (as the main contributor) the recently released “Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Travel Guide to Philadelphia & The Pennsylvania Dutch Country”. His first novel, “Warming Up to Murder”, was published in September 2004.
Richard also writes frequently for “PORTHOLE Cruise Magazine” and magazines found on board cruise ships, including Carnival Cruise Lines’ “Gateways”, Holland America Line’s “Welkom”, Radisson Seven Seas Cruises’ “Style”, Princess Cruises’ “Discovery”, and Costa Cruises’ “La Dolce Vita”. His work has also been published in “The Rotarian”, “Heartland USA”, “German Life Magazine”, “French Magazine” (UK), “National Motorist” (CA), “Grit”, “Coast to Coast”, “Long Weekends”, “International Railway Traveler”, “New Jersey Monthly”, “The New Orleans Times-Picayune”, “The (Tucson) Arizona Daily Star”, “The Worcester (MA) Sunday Telegram”, “The Lowell (MA) Sun”, “Main Line (Philadelphia) Life”, and a host of Internet websites. He has traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe, and has taken trips to Africa, China and the Caribbean.
Richard also has an extensive background in television, wearing such hats as producer and news reporter for several broadcasting networks around the country, and teaching at the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. Richard’s other specialty is business writing and copywriting, and has been published in “The Philadelphia Business Journal.”
