Oct 3, 2005 -- Internet Veterans Start a New Company in the Travel Space

Oct 3rd, 2005 - Internet veterans Mark Schroeder, Heidi Krauth, and Ted "Dehru" Cromer have started Home&Abroad, an online company dedicated to building industry-leading Trip Planning Tools for travelers. Home&Abroad's Trip Planning tools give consumers the ability to plan customized travel itineraries based on their personal interests, trip preferences, and travel goals.

Schroeder, Krauth, and Cromer are all Internet veterans and have worked together at two previous companies, Digital Creators and e-vitro. Digital Creators, one of the pioneering e-learning companies, was founded in 1995 and sold to Teletech, Inc in 1998. e-vitro was merged into Tenet Healthcare's e-learning subsidiary, DigitalMed, in 2000.

The inspiration for Home&Abroad came from an around-the-world trip that Schroeder, his partner, Carla Friedli, and their two daughters, Rosie and Maya, took in 2002 and 2003. Schroeder and Friedli schooled their daughters as they traveled, and they encountered first hand some of the difficulties that face any traveler.

"We had pretty specific goals and interests on this trip," said Schroeder, CEO of Home&Abroad. "But try as we might, we couldn't find one service that, first, matched us to the sites at a destination that spoke to our interests; and, then, having done that, matched us to books, music, movies, and materials, that would help us understand the site better. Our goal at Home&Abroad is to build tools that make traveling easier for anyone."
